Angela Gordon

In  2013 Angela received her Zumba license and that was the start of her fitness craze. Since then she has been taking trainings and has obtained several certifications/licenses.

Prior to obtaining the Zumba license Angela was having significant knee and back issues to  the point that she had to wear knee braces when exercising which unfortunately did not happen very often because of the discomfort in her knees and back.  As she tried to increase the time going to the gym it was feeling like a hopeless battle. She says that to say the more she tried to, the more pain she felt not linking the weight she had gained to the pain. So Angela started going to the gym less and less.  She would say oh I will go tomorrow my knees feel pretty good, tomorrow came and went, the week came and went, the weeks came and went the months came and went.

As the time between workouts became longer and longer she realized that the discomfort, ok, pain was getting worse and worse in her knees just in everyday walking.

She decided after she reached a painful size fourteen on her way to sixteen, after being a ten-twelve most of her life she had had enough.  She began taking Zumba classes and started changing her eating habits (a very slow process).  She got on a routine of going to classes. Initially it did not matter what the class was that she attended.  She found an exceptional Zumba instructor who taught in a church gym. She was and is a wonderful person and instructor.  She encouraged Angela to become an instructor. She hmmmmd and hawed about it for a while, meanwhile she was continuing to lose weight that she had so lovingly gained.  As she continued to hmm an haw she stopped using one knee brace and then the other. Her back had not bothered her in quite some time. Now that her knees and back are pretty much pain free she started working out more.  Once she started working out more she wanted more.

So as you might guess she finally went and took the training to become a licensed Zumba instructor.

She is always taking classes to build her knowledge base to assist all including the active older adults and help all maintain active life styles and achieve a healthier life style. As we age we start to lose more of our ability to exercise properly which leads to no exercising.  Angela’s  goal is to not only work with and help the participants in her classes wherever she teaches but all active older adults she encounters.  Angela took the Pedaling for Parkinson’s Train the Trainer workshop in 2018.  She immediately wanted to start teaching.  If she can help someone feel better about themselves and how they function every day she would be honored to do that.  Angela  recently realized how dancing and cycling helps those with debilitating diseases.  It is amazing to see and hear the stories of folks who once were sitting and doing nothing and how they now cannot get enough of this feel-good medicine we call exercise.

As a result of her trainings, Angela is able to provide a valuable service to the participants and in addition to the knowledge she has gained, she has increased her own physical abilities. In February 2018 Angela  obtained an intense 200hr Yoga certification which has enhanced her physical ability and knowledge that she can use as a Personal Trainer but more importantly, with older active adults and adults with life debilitating diseases to have an active longer life.
