Over the years, I have learned first hand that it's not what you know, but your ability or inability to apply it, on a person to person basis. There are plenty of trainers out there who know their stuff and look the part, but when it comes to working with individuals and personalizing their programs, it becomes very rare in the industry. I am a personal trainer certified through the International Sports and Sciences Association, and have been personal training for over 10 years. As a high school athlete I was never taught the proper way to exercise, and never had the proper nutritional guidance needed to take my performance where it needed to be. I went through years of trial and error before I was able to make the progress I was looking for. If I would have had the proper guidance then, I would have saved myself a lot of time and effort. What I have found to be true is that your motivation level is at it’s highest point when you first make the decision to change. If you spend too much time spinning your wheels and not making progress in these beginning stages, you will have a much greater chance of giving up. This is why it is so important to get the help you need in the beginning when you are most likely to stick with your decision. I have experience with most ages ranging from childhood to adulthood, as well as with different training levels. I have trained many people who have never set foot in a gym facility, as well as intermediate and advanced trainees. Although setting short-term goals is very important, my primary goal for my clients is to have them commit long-term to a healthy lifestyle.
