Jessica O'Brien

Hello! My name is Jessica O’Brien and I LOVE group fitness! I have been a fitness instructor for 24 years. My husband and I have been married for 14 years and have 4 wonderful boys (Tyler-16, Brady-14, Jacob-11 and Henry-4) who keep me very active with soccer, baseball, basketball, and scouts. I’m very excited to share my love of fitness with them and YOU!

When I was in middle school, I finally got tired of being that overweight girl who got picked on by her classmates. As a result, I turned to fitness classes on tv to help me get healthy. My love of group exercise grew over the years so while attending college at Penn State University, I became a certified fitness instructor in 1999 when I completed a semester long Fitness Instructor Training Program. After I became a Penn State certified Group Fitness Instructor, I started teaching group fitness courses on Penn State campus from 1999-2002. I taught step aerobics, cardio kickboxing, washboard abs, hi/lo aerobics, water aerobics, and yoga! I trained under a Yoga Alliance instructor for 2 years before I was assigned to teach my own Yoga class. After I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology in 2002, I became a middle school health and physical education teacher and a YMCA fitness instructor where I shared my love of fitness with my students by teaching the same class formats that I taught at Penn State University.

In 2007, I earned a Master's Degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education at McDaniel College to continue gaining knowledge for my passion for exercise. I wanted to expand my group fitness knowledge so I trained to become a Zumba Instructor in 2011, a PiYo Live Instructor in 2015, a AAAI/ISMA Yoga instructor in 2017, and a Fitour Yoga Instructor in 2024. In 2018, I wrote a 90 day fitness course into Spring Grove High School’s physical education curriculum called Fitness Fusion. In this 90 day course, I teach Zumba, Yoga, PiYo, Step Aerobics, Cardio Kickboxing, Muscle Toning, Washboard Abs, Water Aerobics, and Boot Camps. The students absolutely love it! In the fall of 2021, I wrote another 90 day course into the PE curriculum called Yoga. In this course I teach Vinyasa Yoga, Power Yoga, PiYo, Yin Yoga, and Bikram Yoga.

I have vast knowledge and experience in group fitness that I'm very excited to share! I'm looking forward to this wonderful journey.
