CARL BENEVIDES
Carl Benevides received his Bachelors degree in Music Education from University
of Massachusetts at Lowell and his Masters degree in Education from Plymouth
State University. His most recent position was the Director of Music and Arts
Coordinator at Souhegan High School in Amherst, New Hampshire. His teaching
duties included directing the jazz ensemble, concert band, pep band and music
technology courses. At the NH state level, Carl has served on the Executive Board
of the New Hampshire Music Educator's Association as All-State Band Chair,
Director, Solo and Ensemble Chair and NH Jazz All-State Auditions Host.
As a clinician, Carl has done sessions at the Berklee College of Music, the
University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Gordon College and the NH All-State
Conference in jazz studies and music technology and its ties to music education.
Carl has done his workshop "Speaking the Jazz Language" at both the NH All-
State Conference and the NH Jazz All-State Festival. Carl has done his workshop
"Tech Toys for Music Educators" and “Sound Recording for School Ensembles” at
both the NH Fall and Spring All-State Conferences, the New England Band
Director's Institute and the MENC All-Eastern Conference in Baltimore, MD. Carl
is also on faculty at Philips Exeter Academy where he teaches jazz ensemble and
jazz combo. He has also taught jazz ensemble and saxophone at the Manchester
Community Music School and the University of New Hampshire’s Summer Youth
Music School.
Carl is also an active performing musician. As a saxophonist for Carnival Cruise
Lines, he has played extensively in the Caribbean. As a member of the 215th Army
Concert and Jazz Bands, he has performed in the United States, Greece, the
Netherlands, and Jamaica. Carl has performed and recorded with the Evan
Goodrow Band and continues to perform regularly throughout New England.
Carl currently resides in North Andover, MA with his wife Sharon and their two
awesome pups Mickey and Doogie.
