Kashoua Kristy Yang Thao

Every day, we are surrounded by distraction.  In 2021, while standing on the Naples Pier in Naples, Florida, I made the decision to embark on my yogic journey to try to find peace.  Since that day, I have become a better person for myself and everyone.

I have practiced yoga on and off for several years but it wasn’t until my reflection in Naples, that I was inspired to complete my yoga teacher training.  In May 2022, I completed my 9-month, 200 hour yoga teacher training.  The training was comprehensive and covered everything from history, various yoga styles, asanas to ayurveda.

The style of yoga that speaks to me the most is flow yoga.  A type of yoga I enjoy is hot yoga.  In addition to practicing yoga in the studio, I frequent other facilities/spaces to practice different types of yoga, such as hot yoga and isometric yoga.  I enjoy and appreciate the calming of mind and health benefits of yoga.  Since my yoga teacher training, I have a profound appreciation for how an asana is supposed to “feel” and not just the esthetics of how an asana looks.  This is because every person’s anatomy is unique, and an effective teacher is one who is able to help the student “feel” the asana.  This not only makes practicing yoga rewarding but also makes it accessible and safer for almost anyone.

In addition to yoga, I also teach weekly Zumba classes. I enjoy listening to Latin music and international music, so what better way to move with the music than in Zumba! The benefits of Zumba are easy to see after each class. The energy, the movement and the music all come together to make it fun for students to dance to better health! Checkout my Instagram page (@kristyyang47) for my videos! I also teach Zumba Gold and just love the easy going choreography.
