Cynthia O’Connell is a recently retired specialist professor from the Educational Counseling Department at Monmouth University where she taught graduate courses and was the clinical coordinator for interns in school counseling, student assistance counseling, and student affairs. She has worked as a teacher, coach, school counselor and Director of Counseling Services K-12 in New Jersey for over 30 years. She is a certified Yoga Calm® Trainer, an RYT200 Yoga Instructor, and received training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at Jefferson-Myrna Brind Integrative Medicine Center in Philadelphia. Cynthia works with children through adults in yoga/mindfulness techniques and Yoga Calm® and created the consulting company Mindfulness Connection in 2014. She has presented at state and local conferences on Yoga Calm® and was the keynote speaker at the Monmouth County School Counselors Association conference in March 2018. This past year, she was a panelist for the Monmouth University Women in Leadership Symposium, and the keynote speaker for the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide Wellness Symposium. She has trained educators and students in school districts all over New Jersey, and also in Iceland. She teaches yoga and mindfulness in schools and colleges in New Jersey. She also volunteers teaching yoga and mindfulness for Non-profit organizations, such Barbells for Boobs, Common Ground Grief Center and Behavioral Health. She has worked with the New Jersey Bar Association running the Mindfulness Lounge at their conference and presenting workshops on meditation and teaching yoga. Her mission is to educate, encourage and connect youth through adults to develop a more mindful, compassionate attitude through breath work, yoga movement, meditation, and acceptance. She has just co-authored with Jennifer Clearwaters her first book, The Elevation Principles, available on Amazon.
