Kellie Mathes

I fell in love with yoga in 2008, while looking for a way to find strength during my battle with breast cancer and the crushing side-effects of chemotherapy, surgeries and other medical procedures.  After I was cleared to begin physical exercise, I attempted a few of the rigorous exercise practices that I enjoyed before my diagnosis.

I tried a step class and found that I lacked coordination and balance; I took a spinning class and the pace was too demanding; and finally, I went for a run and realized I was too dizzy and simply not well enough for impact and fast-paced movement.

With a mix of disappointment from failure and determination to regain my strength, I reluctantly signed up for my first yoga class at my community's local YMCA. Like most people (it seems), I was unaware of the strengthening benefits of yoga. To my surprise, I loved the class and most importantly, I could keep up!

I found the pace accessible and immediately began practicing yoga 3 days per week. Over the course of several months and with a consistent yoga practice, I became as physically strong and mentally confident as I was before my breast cancer diagnosis.

The pace worked for all fitness levels and options to increase and reduce the class intensity created a welcoming, accepting and successful experience!

Within a year, I was physically and mentally stronger than I had ever been and I sought out more challenging classes. Along the way, I discovered hot and power yoga, along with my life purpose of sharing this strength with others.

I'm proud to say that I have created a yoga community where people show up with a “feet to the fire” philosophy and understand that the physical and mental demands are well worth the reward.

Yoga builds the body from the inside-out. Strong body. Calm Mind.

I love to witness people activate their personal power.

From the first time watching a student on a yoga mat do something they thought was impossible to seeing massive personal leadership growth in participants in my yoga teacher training programs, I know that my purpose is to guide others toward their personal power.

I don't rescue you...

What I can do is offer you tools to empower yourself.

XOXO

Kellie
