My first Yoga class. Spring of 2008. Beverly Hills hotel in California. I was visiting a family member; little did I know how much of what I was about to experience will change the course of my life.
Overlooking the pool, a group gathered in what I thought was a fitness class. I asked, “can I join?” the teacher greeted me with enthusiasm “yes!” she said. Following along on my mat: suddenly, I remember feeling the blood rushing into my head, and it terrified me! Downward dog.
In the next 15 years, I have joyfully replaced my fears with courage, my doubts with certainty, and my life with love. Falling in love with the practice and, more importantly: falling in love with myself and the life’s journey I am blessed with.
The practice of Yoga has taught me; lighthearted playfulness is my favorite way to navigate life. Maintaining a smile when life (or an Asana) gets challenging is crucial; to gracefully letting go of the struggle. Attitude fit for welcoming the continuous rebirth of a more enlightened self (increased flexibility and strength).True strength is a kind heart.
