Troy Hanford

Hi, my name is Troy :)

I have always enjoyed sports, working out, as well as leading individual and group exercise programs since I was in high school. I graduated from Emory University with a BBA, and the University of Texas with an MBA. I have 30 years of experience in business with an emphasis in technology and communications.

I am also a part time power flow yoga teacher. I teach twice a week, overall about 100 classes a year. I have been teaching yoga regularly since 2015. I am 55 (about to be 56). I found hot power flow yoga in 2009, as I was entering my early 40s.

In the early 2010's I had a busy professional careers, and was also very involved in raising my two daughters. I coached them (and their teams) through 16 seasons of recreational soccer and 3 seasons of recreational basketball. I also practiced yoga, taking 3-5 classes a week.

In 2015, I took the YT-200 training to fill my time, as my children migrate to college away from home. As soon as I graduated I started teaching. Initially, I taught at Numi in College Park, MD, then move to my home studio, Down Dog Yoga in Washington, DC, then move to Zoom (Pandemic), then moved to PureFire Yoga, Bethesda, MD. I have taught more than 750 classes over the last 8 years.

I truly enjoy teaching yoga, and I think that comes through loud and clear in my classes. I want to make sure everyone falls in love with the experience. I believe it is a moving mediation, really. An opportunity to give up the past, and the future, and to connect to the present moment. And, what better place to connect to the moment, to the universe, than at sunrise along the water on vacation.

I am an extrovert. I am happy to teach beginners as well as advanced yogis. I love to have couples, families, etc come and take together. I have success teaching parent/child combos. I like to have music in my classes, and I intent to bring my Bose MOVE with me on vacation's when I teach. Its loud, it runs on a chargeable battery, it sounds great, its a great back up for local audio systems.

I prefer a physical practice that is challenging. But, I can read a crowd and dial it up or down as needed. I am going to have a few of my current students write me a short reference for your review.  I'll paste their write ups and their contact info in this space as they become available.

Let's talk about my first assignment :)
