Christina RodriguezSmith

I loved pursuing my graduate degree in Forensic Anthropology and later joining the Army (as a single mom and choosing to be a Mortuary Affairs Specialist). I loved my Army career but it took a toll on my body mentally and physically. I have seen more death than anyone should probably see in a lifetime. From performing autopsies on civilians to sending home the wars dead (Fallen soldiers and civilians).

I have PTSD and because of the physical demands of my career and the ruck march's, I found out in December 2012 that my lumbar vertebrae shifted forward as well as completely blowing out my L5-S1 disc. I had surgery a month later to remove the calcified portion that was pushing on my sciatic nerve. I've shrunk 1/2" since joining the Army and new x-rays show my vertebrae deteriorating like a 70 yr olds.

Why am I telling you this? Because I could easily go back to drinking every night to dull the pain of death I have seen. Or I could have decided to remain medicated from back surgery and living an unhealthy lifestyle. Instead, I REFUSE to be a victim of circumstance and I choose to live my life to the fullest and in the best way possible. I am also interested in helping other Veterans and Civilians live a healthier lifestyle.

Goals:

In 2020 I began pursuing a personal goal of competing in the NPC as a Figure Competitor. In 2021 I competed in 3 shows, 2022 in 2 shows and I have my first show of 2023 on June 4th.

I would also like to add Yoga certification later in the year.
