Karen Fabian has been practicing yoga since December of 2000 at the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute. She has an extensive business background, with academic and corporate experience in healthcare, business consulting and software development. She has an undergraduate physical therapy background and an undergraduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Boston University and a Masters in Health Care Administration from Simmons College. Karen has worked with head injured individuals as a clinical social worker, the health insurance industry, Managed Care consulting and a private software company serving the HR field. She also has a fitness background and has taught in health clubs as a group fitness instructor. Karen started practicing yoga after many years of participating in traditional fitness using running, weight training and other group classes to stay fit. She initially began taking yoga classes as just another part of her fitness routine but in time, found it was the only thing she needed to do in order to stay healthy and strong. She also found that it helped her deal with stress, stay calm and focused and overall lead a more balanced and happy life. Karen has found that practicing and teaching yoga provides her with an ideal way to tap into both her spiritual and physical energy as well as the energy in all of us.
Karen has invested in extensive training over the past several years. She has attended both the Level 1 and Level 2 Teacher Trainings provided by Baron Baptiste in 2002 and 2003. She collaborates on content with Baron for major magazine articles in publications such as Yoga Journal and Women’s Health and Fitness. . She has been teaching since August, 2002 in a variety of private and studio settings, including the Baptiste studio in Boston, Cambridge and Brookline. In March, 2004 she received her Certification from the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute and is now a Certified Baptiste Power Yoga Teacher. Karen also is one of the lead teachers for Baptiste’s Kid Yoga Program. She spearheaded the task of Baptiste Power Yoga’s bid to become a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance, a designation that was granted in August, 2005. As a result, once teachers receive their Baptiste certification, they can receive the designation of Registered Yoga Teacher (R.Y.T) for the 200-hour level of registration through Yoga Alliance.
