Tara Fontenot

Tara earned a degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia in 2003 and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware in 2006. After graduating Tara followed her love of the mountains and skiing out to Vail, Colorado and then to Park City, Utah.

In Utah, Tara spent five years as a Physical Therapist for the United States Ski Team. In 2010 she was chosen to be a member of the US Medical Team at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Tara returned with her husband and dog to Charlottesville in 2012 and has been working as a Physical Therapist in an outpatient orthopedic setting ever since.

Eager to expand her knowledge and find new ways to explore movement analysis and biomechanics she trained in the STOTT PILATES® method. Tara has enjoyed using this in her practice to help connect the dots for patients between core control, breathing techniques, movement patterns and function.

Tara’s approach to teaching is based on retraining functional movement patterns. She uses Pilates as a way of helping clients integrate these patterns into everyday movement.  She has been teaching Pilates since 2020 and believes that movement is medicine, and that Pilates is a great exercise modality for everybody!

Since returning to Virginia her family has grown, She has two daughters.   She is looking forward to combining two of her passions, pilates and travel for this experience!
