Hi! My name is Kristin and I have been in the fitness industry teaching classes for the last 24 years. Throughout that time I have taught on the East Coast and currently in the Midwest. I have met some pretty amazing people while teaching a variety of classes. Zumba, Kickboxing, Bootcamp, Spinning, boutique style studio classes, Aqua aerobics and strength and high/low classes, just to name a few.
I started out my fitness journey teaching classes on the East coast NY/NJ area. There I worked for both big box gyms, mom and pop shops as well as in the corporate arena for Met Life. While each fitness facilities culture was a bit different, one thing remained the same, group fitness was always the heart of the facility.
While at Powerhouse Gym, I not only was an instructor, but I was also the Group Exercise Director. In that position I was able to interview and hire passionate, experienced instructors to add to our Group Fitness Program. I also held various Group Fitness events to bring in new Members as well as to say thank you to our current ones. I constructed a well-balanced, dynamic weekly group fitness schedule which had something for all members within our club.
I love the connection that fitness brings to people. Once you find your instructor you shortly thereafter find your tribe. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people is a fantastic recipe for success in my opinion. I firmly believe that fitness should be fun! I also believe that teaching a class where everyone feels comfortable and welcome, no matter what their fitness abilities are, is another key element to being successful.
Being a fitness instructor is more than standing in front of a room of people and getting your sweat on. It's about connection, a compliment I give, a conversation I have before or after class, can change someone's day, outlook on life or simply put a smile on their face. That "power" is not something I take lightly.
Fitness to me is not solely about a number on a scale. It's about moving the body and challenging the mind all while being surrounded by a group of people who encourage you, pick you up when you are down and celebrate you!
