After sustaining a knee injury during a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class, my spirits were low. The options presented to me by my doctor were either surgery, or to try physical therapy. One of those physical therapy options was yoga.
I immediately booked a class at a nearby studio. Despite my embarrassment over being the most rigid guy on earth at the time, I forced myself to keep coming. I fell back on a value instilled into me early in my BJJ training: just keep showing up! Eventually, that body (and mind!) rigidity lessened, and I was hooked on how much stronger and mobile I was becoming.
This all lead me to eventually pursue my RYT-200, with the goal of furthering my practice. I had no intention of teaching, which I later learned was what
EVERYONE says before they inevitably start teaching. Eventually, a friend offered me to teach at her new studio, and here we are now!
My personal practice is always centered around the breath, letting the movements match the breath. In the past year, I became a Certified Breath Coach under the YogaBody program, and was fascinated by the science behind a simple breath. This lead me further down the breathing rabbit hole, and I'm now an Advanced Instructor for The Oxygen Advantage program. I work with everyone from athletes, to casuals, and everywhere in between. I bring all of this knowledge and focus on the breath to my yoga classes.
I teach primarily a power vinyasa style, with sequences designed to let students first feel a posture and how it suits their breath and bodies. Mixed into my classes will be breathing exercises, intentionally chosen according to the scientific benefits they provide aim to provide a safe, comfortable, and always challenging class that can grow and evolve alongside the student. You might even hear some good tunes on the mat as well....I am just as intentional with my playlists as I am with my sequencing.
Hope to see you soon!
