I have been an active member of group fitness for many years. I joined Life Time fitness early in my life, specifically to participate in the group fitness courses, it changed my life. The instruction was outstanding. Not only did I become body-confident, my health and well-being dramatically improved. I also made life-long friends which expanded my community of being around others who desired to be healthy.
One of my goals was to become certified as a Group Fitness Instructor. Eight years ago, I began leading group fitness classes at North Hennepin Community College, my current place of employment, for a few members of the staff. I enjoyed it so much that I began offering it twice per week. As time went on, my class became increasing popular amongst staff, faculty and students. I quickly developed a regular following of up to 25 participants. In January of 2018, I decided that it would be in my best interest to become certified. I consulted with members of the Exercise Science Department faculty and they encouraged me and provided additional support and one-on-one training. I registered with the American Council on Exercise and passed my exam in April of 2018. I also became certified in CPR/AED.
I love group fitness and I enjoy teaching several group fitness formats. I base my classes on the many years of experience as a regular participant in the classes offered at Life Time Fitness. North Hennepin Community College has a state-of-the-art fitness studio, similar to the studios at Life Time. Up until March of 2020, I offered Cardio Strength, STRIKE, TCX (now Xtreme), the Mix, and HIIT in the studio. Since COVID-19, we have had to work remotely. I now offer these classes online through Zoom from my home and attendance is still strong.
In addition to my classes at NHCC, I teach group fitness classes twice per week for 42 high school students who are participating in a six-week intensive summer program. The program, High School Upward Bound, provides low-income high school students with a variety of resources and opportunities to help them prepare for college.
I am also a part-time musician and have a dance background. I also have worked as a professional educator for over 25 years and hold a Master’s Degree in Adult Education. I am a fun energetic person who loves to teach and inspire others.
More recently, I was hired by Trustmark Corp in Minneapolis, MN as a Group Fitness Instructor substitute. I have taught several courses using a variety of formats such as, Cardio Strength, Cardio Kickboxing, Core, Step Aerobics, and HIIT on multiple occasions for a variety of companies such as Boston Scientific. I believe I could add value to your staff of Group Fitness Instructors and offer instruction that is safe and welcoming for people at all levels of fitness. I want inspire others and be a role-model and fitness mentor similar to the kind of education and training that I have received from years of participating in high quality group fitness programming.
