Duncan Watson

Duncan Watson has been a yoga teacher for eleven years in Keene, New Hampshire.  He has taught at the Bodhifit Yoga in Brattleboro, VT, Keene Yoga Center, Aloha Yoga in Keene, NH, and has held outdoor classes in various nature settings as weather allows.   Duncan teaches a vinyasa flow class which is simply sequencing movement to breath.   You’ll definitely know you did something after a class, but the class is suitable for all levels of ability.

Many people assume that they can’t do yoga because they aren’t flexible enough, but the hardest part of yoga is making the time to get on the mat.  Once there, the magic unfolds.   Duncan encourages people to leave their ego at the door and practice self-kindness.  Yoga is a practice, and there is no absolute destination.  Some days you find yourself in your body, moving freely, poses come easy, and some days you struggle with simple poses.   “I have literally never taken a yoga class, even when I’ve struggled, and said I wish I hadn’t done that” Watson said.    All those happy chemicals flowing through your body after class- endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin will leave you feeling inspired, focused, and relaxed.

Energetically classes are always better with more people in the room, and Watson has a committed core of people who come to the class for the health benefits as well as community aspect of group exercise.  The class flow is usually accompanied by an eclectic, ever-changing, music playlist that complements the movement.

Duncan first came to yoga as a way to heal from an injury to his back, but he was initially concerned that yoga wasn’t “athletic” enough for his sensibilities.   After a humbling first class where he struggled to make it through all the poses, he realized that yoga was going to be a necessary activity to enable his body to do what he wants it to do as he ages.   “I’ve long joked that I don’t love yoga (because it’s challenging), but I love what yoga does for me.”    Duncan completed his 200 hour teacher training with Amazing Yoga based out of Pittsburgh.   He has led successful yoga retreats to Tulum, Mexico and Belize.
