Michael Ungar

My interest in fitness came later in life. While working with a personal trainer I set fitness goals like completing a triathlon and running a half-marathon. After a long career as a rabbi, I became an ACE (American Council on Exercise) Certified Personal Trainer. I take a particular interest in working with those 55+. I am a certified Functional Aging Specialist through FAI (Functional Aging Institute).

As we grow older, we need not necessarily grow weaker and more frail. Research shows that at any age we can work to maintain and even improve our levels of physical fitness. The focus is on mobility (keeping our body moving as it should), balance, and strength. The ultimate goal is to be able to carry out the activities of daily living with energy and confidence so that we can remain independent long into our senior years.

I have extensive experience working with those over 55 (and into their 90s) and am familiar with the various conditions that accompany us as we grow older. I have come back from injuries and surgeries and understand the struggles of trying to successfully regain previous abilities. My years as a rabbi have given me a greater sense of empathy, a listening ear, and an appreciation and respect for others and their experiences.

I look forward to working with you to be stronger and more independent as we make our way into the “years of wisdom” ahead. I firmly believe in the positive benefits fitness brings to all areas of our lives.
