Lydia Lunsford

I was first introduced to Pilates in 2005 and instantly fell in love. The movements, combining both flexibility and strength, felt like a perfect fit for my body. Soon after, I was blessed to learn that I was pregnant with my son and was lucky enough to have found the method to keep my body healthy, strong and mobile throughout pregnancy, through birth and even post-natal. Not only was Pilates the key to my fitness and success with pre-and post-natal, it was also the exercise method that felt the most right to my body and soul.

In 2006 I was certified in Mat and Standing Pilates through The PhysicalMindInstitute while apprenticing on all the apparatus with a mentor. In 2014 I completed the Comprehensive Pilates program with Polestar Pilates and soon became a certified member of the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). In 2016 I completed the BASI (Body Arts and Science) bridge program with Rael Isacowitz to add to my Pilates teaching and personal practice. In 2020 I was able to partner ownership with a very established local Pilates studio owner with a focus on Classical training and technique. In 2024 I added to my repertoire, completing the Hertiage Training Program with Cara Reeser, who is carrying the torch of Kathy Grant, one of the distinguished Pilates elders.

To compliment and add variety to the essential Pilates foundations, I also instruct the very popular Barre fitness classes, attaining certifications in all of the BootyBarre methods with Traci Mallett, BarreConnect which focuses on classes for a gym setting and later instructed all 3 methods offered at Pure Barre. I continue to attend Continuing Education Courses, where I am able to learn to treat specific populations with pathologies through Pilates such as people with osteoporosis, scoliosis, joint replacements, back pain and neurological disorders. Along with ailments, I love the challenge of enhancing sports activities such as golf, tennis, weight lifting, and both summer and winter sports with the Pilates repertoire. My excitement to learn and grow with all that Pilates has to offer never ceases and my excitement to share the love of Pilates is ignited with every new participant I am blessed to encounter.
