Katie Murphy Balkwill

Katie Murphy Balkwill began her career as a professional dancer, touring internationally in major musical productions, including Queen’s We Will Rock You. Performing at such a high level sparked a deep awareness of the body—not only as an instrument of expression, but as something that requires care, strength, and mindful maintenance. This curiosity became a fascination, and eventually a calling.

Her desire to better understand movement, longevity, and holistic well-being led her to yoga. What began as a physical practice quickly expanded into a love for all aspects of yoga: the inspired teachings, the philosophy and way of life, the power of breathwork, and the balance of flexibility and strength.

Katie completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at the esteemed Semperviva Yoga Studio in Vancouver under the YogaWorks program. Driven to serve students with diverse needs, she went on to specialize further with certifications in Restorative Yoga and Pre-Natal Yoga. She also developed her own Chair Yoga program, designed specifically for individuals with movement limitations and accessibility challenges.

She taught at Semperviva Yoga Studio until its closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, after which she relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan, where she taught at several studios, including Yoga Mala and Bodhi Tree Yoga Studio.

Most recently—and most meaningfully—Katie has been aligning her teaching with the core beliefs she found through yoga: inclusivity, compassion, and service. She now offers yoga classes free of charge to women’s groups and the broader community, with the goal of removing financial, physical, and social barriers to practice. She believes deeply that everyone deserves access to the peace, joy, and empowerment that yoga can bring.

In addition to her work as a yoga teacher, Katie is a Marketing Specialist for the Regina Public Library, another non-profit organization she passionately believes in—further reflecting her commitment to community, access, and lifelong learning.

Through movement, breath, and service, Katie continues to share yoga as a tool for connection, healing, and belonging—for everyone.
