About Andy Hanshaw
Andy Hanshaw is a San Diego-based yoga teacher who believes in the power of movement to transform both individuals and communities. With a deep-rooted history in local advocacy and a passion for open and mindful practice, Andy brings a unique perspective to every class he guides.
From Advocacy to Alignment
Before finding his home on the yoga mat, Andy spent over a decade as a prominent leader in San Diego’s non-profit sector. As the former Executive Director of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, he dedicated his career to making the region safer and more accessible for everyone. His commitment to community connection is perhaps best seen through Bike The Bay, an annual 25-mile community ride he founded in 2007. What began as a small vision has grown into a major fundraiser with over 2,500 annual participants, offering the rare opportunity to pedal across the iconic Coronado Bay Bridge.
His Yoga Practice
Andy’s journey to become a certified yoga instructor came from a love of living an active, healthy lifestyle while also connecting with his community. An avid cyclist and San Diego resident for over 20 years, Andy took up yoga to enrich his life and to improve his cycling strength and endurance. He has dedicated his career to helping local non-profits make a difference in San Diego and teaching yoga became a natural transition for his life balance and path forward, He aims to guide local athletes and dedicated yogis towards their goals to achieve improved performance and feel better about themselves while continuing to give back to our San Diego community.
Andy’s transition into teaching was a natural evolution of his mission to promote wellness. He is a Certified Yoga Teacher with a 200-hour RYT Vinyasa Yoga certification from the Yoga Alliance. Today, he shares his practice with others through classes focused on Vinyasa flows that build strength, balance, breath, and a sense of calm amidst the busyness of life.
Whether he is leading a ride or a class, Andy remains committed to one goal: helping San Diegans move more, breathe deeper, and connect with themselves and the community around them.
