I have been a group exercise instructor for three years now and I have loved every moment of it! After the birth of my daughter in late 2003, I had gained weight and was completely out of shape. In the process of losing weight through a healthy diet and a new exercise program, I fell in love with group fitness and quickly worked my way to a much happier and healthier me. I have a background in biology and anatomy, having entered medical school after college. I soon realized that much of what I was seeing was the downhill slide of so many patients into obesity. I was frustrated by the lack of positive steps to fix that problem but didn't understand my role in the solution until years later when I took my own health to a much more active level. I am currently the fitness director at a large family life center. I lead classes in Zumba (a latin-dance style of aerobics that I am now completely addicted to!), kickbox fitness, step, yoga, pilates, and body sculpting at several gyms in the area. I love fitness and can never return to my old sedentary lifestyle. I also love to see the changes in my class participants as they begin to reap the benefits in their own bodies and lives. I love being part of the preventive aspect of health care and truly see myself doing this for the rest of my life!
