I am a teacher at heart. I started out as a middle and high school English and Social Studies teacher. Of course, there was always room for sport, and I coached the high school swim team and soccer team. However, that was life pre-child. Kids change everything! I stopped working when my son was born...but it didn't last long. In 2004 I was encouraged by one of my Step Instructors to train as a Group Fitness Instructor and suddenly found a whole new format to channel my teaching instincts. I was able to bring my classroom enthusiasm, clarity, commitment and creativity to the exercise studio. I love fitness and I believe my enthusiasm excites my participants. I find myself using the same techniques as a fitness instructor that I used as a middle school teacher to keep people motivated. I think it's important to connect individually with my members so that I know their fitness goals and the hurdles that prevent them from meeting those goals. I have also learned that fitness instructors have to model health and wellness and I do that by competing in triathlons, balancing my cardiovascular workouts with strength and flexibility work, and emphasizing a mind-body connection in my yoga classes, and prioritizing my family first. I would love to share my excitement and enthusiasm for all forms of fitness with your clients!
