Virginia Kinkel

Throughout my life I had been a competitve gymnast, taking part in many national meets. When injury drove me away from the sport, I began competitve cheerleading because it came so naturally for me. After a few years of cheerleading, and making the cheerleading team at University of Maryland, I realized I did not have the passion to continue. From there I found myself taking multiple group fitness classes at the gym on campus in order to stay in shape. I instantly became addicted to the upbeat tempo of the classes along with the way my body would feel afterwards. My freshman year of college I enrolled in a "fitness instructor training course" sponsered by ACE. After completing the 3 month course I went on to become a certified group fitness instructor teaching up to 9 hour-long classes a week! Along the way I continued to pursue my kinesiology degree, and truly developed a passion for the human body and personal fitness. After graduating last May from the University of Maryland I received a full-time position at the Center For Disease Control as a fitness specialist. I also began personal training part time at The Sports Club LA/Washington DC, while still teaching 4 group fitness classes a week. My desire is to continue to learn constanly. I attend the Southeast Collegiate Fitness Expo annually (I presented in 2007, and will present February 2009). I also stay up-to-date with CEC's by taking various Continuing Ed classes. Currently I am applying to graduate schools for Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology. I would like to continue to grow in the fitness industry.
