Named USPTA Middle States Rookie of the Year in 1996, Kathy considers her greatest accomplishment as a tennis pro to be developing and implementing programs for extremely large groups. She organizes the USTA Middle States Central Pennsylvania Division awards and play day, local junior ralleyball programs, school assemblies and free-for-alls. “Whenever I can reach out to positively affect the lives of so many people, I feel I have accomplished a great deal. Tennis is a great medium for that to happen.”
Named USTA Middle States CPD Volunteer of the Year in 2001, Kathy was USTA Middle States CPD Vice President of Adult Activities. She was previously employed with Elizabethtown College as an Adjunct Professor and Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach. She received her bachelor’s degree from Elizabethtown College where she was captain of the tennis team, which was ranked in the top five in the nation at that time. Kathy earned her master’s degree in education at Penn State in Harrisburg, Pa.
Kathy became a tennis pro after college. “I had received a degree in education and wanted to put that knowledge with my love and knowledge I had for the game of tennis. I wanted to encourage as many kids and adults to enjoy a sport they could play all their lives,” she says. She also continues to play competitively whenever possible.
“I enjoy the faces of players as they experience the excitement and joy of the game. It is pure and spontaneous. Tennis is such a multifaceted sport. It encompasses your intellect, emotions, physical attributes and your spirit. It can be a medium for friendships, personal development, as well as a great workout. I truly enjoy getting people together to play tennis, whether it’s beginner level or tournament players. I am very interested in the physical movement in the sport and like to work on players’ footwork, conditioning and agility,” Kathy adds.
When asked about her future goals, Kathy responded that she would like to “develop and implement fitness and conditioning testing and programs for all ages that are fun, efficient and produce great results for their tennis.” Kathy considers her family to be her greatest accomplishment outside of the tennis industry. Kathy's family was just named USTA CPD Family of the Year for 2008.
