My name is Rebecca Hannifan, and I have been married to my high-school sweetheart for over 30 years. We live in Lexington, Kentucky, and we have two daughters and one son-in-law. We adopted a Beagle mix named Indy.
I started taking group fitness classes after my first daughter was born because I wanted to be around for her for as long as possible, and I also desired to be a healthy example for her. I found that I loved the dynamics of group fitness and eventually became certified to teach a weightlifting class choreographed to music. From there, I eventually moved into teaching other classes like dance and yoga.
I really enjoy the freedom and energy of dance classes and like to motivate my students to shed their inhibitions, get a great workout, and have so much fun that they forget they are exercising. I find yoga classes to be both relaxing and challenging in a way that is different from all other classes. I also teach SilverSneakers classes to older students, and I find those classes especially rewarding.
I enjoy group fitness because I like being a part of helping people lead healthier lives. I also love interacting with my students, finding out about their fitness goals and challenges, and discussing our daily lives. I think positive social interaction is just as important a part of overall fitness as physical exercise.
