I have been working in the fitness industry for over 20 years. In that time I have taught many group exercise classes including Zumba, Step, Dance Fusion, Functional/Weight Training, Perinatal Fitness, Older Adult/Senior Exercise Classes, Core and Stability Ball, BOSU, some Yoga and Pilates too. I have also taught Aqua and Kickboxing classes but do not hold specific certifications for those areas. My first official job after graduating Rutgers was at a hospital-based fitness facility where I worked my way up from an intern to manager. I am a Teacher of Health and Fitness Technology for high school students in a shared time program as well as for the Adult Evening Division at OCVTS in Toms River, NJ. This program develops the skills needed for individual fitness assessment and programming, group activity programming, behavior change education as well as counseling and facility/program coordination. Examples included in the course outline are exercise physiology, human anatomy, kinesiology, fitness assessment/exercise program design as well as group exercise instruction and the basics of nutrition. Upon completion of the program, students become certified personal trainers.
