Scott Howard

I believe that I have a great deal to contribute to the resort given my interest, experience, education and special gift of getting along with people of differing ages, genders and ethnicity's.  I have an extremely effective communication style, which has proven to be an invaluable asset working with students, athletes, administrators, parents, coaches, alumni, and those in the tennis community.  In addition, I am confident that my organizational skills and my willingness to tackle new and challenging projects will prove to be desirable traits.

I am currently employed by Stonebrae Country Club in Hayward as their very first Director of Tennis.  In addition to my duties at Stonebrae, I am an independant tennis instructor in the San Mateo area.  I have attained a USPTA Level 1 certification and I was just voted onto the Board of Directors for the USPTA Northern California Division.  Last summer I coached the USTA Northern California Pacific Zonal team in Tucson, Arizona.  I had a great time doing it, and it has been a goal of mine to return this year.  Prior to returning to the peninsula, I was a Recreation Leader V at the Oak Park Tennis Center in Stockton for the City of Stockton’s Department of Parks and Recreation.  Some of my job responsibilities included; planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating programs and special events; acting as a liaison between the City of Stockton and the tennis facility with tournaments and other events.  I was also on the Stockton Tennis Club’s Board of Directors in addition to my current duties as the USTA Northern California Seeding Coordinator for the Men’s 35’s and 40’s events.

I am a graduate of San Francisco State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communication Arts.  I am currently near completion on a Master of Science degree in Recreation Administration at San Francisco State University.

My attention to detail and work ethic enabled me to succeed as a Head Tennis Coach. Despite a large number of injuries, the last team I coached at University of the Pacific finished with an 8-11 overall record while playing numerous nationally ranked teams.  One of our players earned Big West Conference Player of the Year, and the team won ITA All-Academic honors. During my short tenure at Pacific, I spearheaded the upgrading of the campus tennis facility, developed a tennis newsletter, established an alumni group, added a record number of home contests, strengthened the match schedule and increased fan attendance.  As a Head Coach at the collegiate level I had experience securing facilities, creating schedules, maintaining rosters and eligibility records, and publishing standings for my respective teams.

As the Senior Branch Manager for Securitas Security Services USA, Inc. in Stockton, California I managed a 'book of business' that included over 40 clients and more than five million dollars of annual revenue.  I was responsible for all aspects of the business, ranging from new sales, client retention, budgeting, scheduling, contract negotiation, ordering of supplies, advertising and recruiting.  I supervised over 200 employees at sites from Lodi to Tracy.  I believe that I was very good at my job, and I progressed within the company very quickly, but I wanted to re-enter the tennis industry.

I am very fortunate to have been raised in such a diverse area as the Bay Area. I have always attended and worked at academic institutions that had a very, very diverse student population.  I believe that this background would be one of my biggest assets as a Traveling Coach.  In each of my previous positions it was absolutely mandatory that I maintain exemplary professional conduct and ethics of the highest regard.  As a Tennis Professional that works for myself, I am very familair with multi-tasking and completing a job from start to finish.

I come from an extremely well known and successful tennis family here in Northern California.  My father Gil, has won more than a dozen USTA National Championships and at one time was ranked #1 in the world in his age division.  Both of my two older brothers were ranked in the top 500 on the ATP tour, and my sister played #1 at San Francisco State University.  I compete in USTA Men’s Open and Senior events and was ranked #10 in singles in the USTA Men’s National 40 and over division.  My partner and I finished ranked #2 in the country in doubles in 2006.  In the past four years I have won a total of twenty USTA Northern California tournaments.

During my eight years of coaching at the collegiate level, I have had the challenge and opportunity of inheriting programs that wished to ascend to the next level. I believe that I have always accomplished that goal.  I would enjoy discussing my qualifications with you, as well as my possible employment.

Sincerely,

Scott Howard
