Alexandra Freyer

Alexandra is a recent graduate of the Himalaya Yoga Valley Centre 200 hour teacher training program in Goa, India. Before choosing a path to become a yoga teacher, however, Alexandra had a diverse education. A graduate of Colby College in Maine in 2009, Alexandra studied Political Science, Theater Arts, Dance, Poetry and Buddhist studies. She graduated at the top of her class, Magna Cum Laude, and through her studies became passionate about middle eastern politics and human rights.

Born and raised just outside of boston, Alexandra grew up involved in the theater dance world of Massachusetts. Performing (and later on teaching) at the North Shore Music Theatre and performing for the Ballet Theater of Boston at a young age. Her passion for politics also led her to become involved in local politics, interning for US Senator John F. Kerry for 2 consecutive summers.

Alexandra came to yoga after a struggle with pneumonia forced her to take some time off from college. Yoga helped her heal and look at her body, mind and spirit in a whole new way. She decided to take a second semester off and travel to India in the Fall of 2006 to volunteer. She taught 4th grade English in a small impoverished school in Palampur, Himachel Pradesh, India for 2 months. During that time, she travelled to Dharamsala on the weekends, studying Buddhism, yoga, and trekking.

In the Spring of 2008, Alexandra also took an opportunity to travel once more. She spent the semester studying Arabic and African politics at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. During that time, she was able to travel all over South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, and Botswana.

After recently returning from her second trip to India (this time as a student of yoga), Alexandra is excited to share her own experiences and continuing learning from travel and other teachers.
