I Tony Cunha starting teaching tennis in in 1992 as an assistant pro at Masons Island Ct. during the summer. After a few years I was hired to Coach Bayview Academy Girls Tennis team. I coached the team for 5 years. During that time our team had 5 All State players. In 1997 I decided to leave the team because my  tennis student census was getting to large, and the time commitment in Coaching a Team did not allow for me to do both jobs effectively.

I then started teaching in the winter at a tennis two Clubs, Tennis Rhode Island and Centre Court Tennis club. I was one of four pro's at TRI and found that the lack of Court time was not allowing me to expand my student base. So I relocated my students to Centre Court Tennis club where we all are independent Tennis Pro's. At this facility I was able to expand and produce a number of good young players as well as teaching adults.

Currently I have about 25 students of which 7 are adults. This year my Camp had produced 3 All-State Tennis players who all played #1 seed at three different schools. And another 5 girls who played on my old team, Bay View Academy and helped the team to win the State Championships. My top student is Pam Emery which won the Rhode Isalnd girls Singles State  Championship her Freshman,Junior, and Senior year and runner up her sophmore year 2003 - 2007. Currently she is a sophmore playing #1 for the University Of R.I.. After getting her degree she wants to attempt going on tour and is currently entering top level tournaments in order to prepare for the future.

As for my backround in Tennis I started playing tennis in High School and when I graduated  had gone to the military. While in the military I started teaching in San Diego, Coronado as an instructor and realized how much I liked teaching. It became apparent that I received more satisfaction from teaching than playing. When I returned to RI I called an old high school teammate and friend who was then teaching at Mason's Island and Coach of URI. He took me on board as an assistant. From there I traveled to the Bolletteiri Academy to learn how the top level students were being taught. I had gone through their adult camps to understand what it was like to be a student again and learn the method of Nick's style of teaching.

I then applied to Van Der Meer Academy for teaching and Coaching Seminars of which Dennis Van Der Meer was one of the instructors. I have attended and received certificates from their TUII Coaches program. And TUI PTR pro Certification program. I attend Van Der meer and other clinics throughout the year in order to stay current on any new style of trend in the game of tennis. So please feel free to come to out to the courts and give tennis a try!
