Krista Powell

My passion for fitness began long ago.  After I put on the traditional "freshman 40" my first year in college I struggled to loose weight.  As I looked around me, I realized that all of the women in my family were once healthy but had became overweight.  It became my goal to get healthy and stay healthy.  I began by changing my diet, and soon realized that the key to successful, long term weight loss was to begin an exercise program and stick with it.  I started by doing exercise videos in my home and later joined a gym.  I loved the way exercise made me feel and I looked forward to my workouts.

Shortly after I was married I tried my first indoor cycle class and became addicted.  It only took about one year for me to decide that I wanted to help others find as much joy in their workouts as I did.  I decided to become a certified instructor.  I loved leading people thought a mind/body journey on the bike, but often felt frustrated by the reputation indoor cycle had as being way too difficult for new or deconditioned people.  It then became my goal to get new people in the door and find a way to help them realize their potential.

Several years later I added a group exercise certification, teaching mostly "hi/low" and "cardio" classes.  I enjoyed the challenge of coming up with new choreography, but after the birth of my daughter I realized that I just didn't have as much time to choreograph the kinds of classes I used to.  So, I decided to look into other types of certifications.

As fate would have it, I was in a car accidient with my daughter that same year.  Thankfully, she was not hurt, but I suffered a neck injury.  I was a nursing mother I was not able to take the pain medication prescribed by my doctor.  I tried several different types of therapy, but only found relief when a PT suggested pilates based exercises.

Initially I learned the choreography of pilates, but I wanted to be sure that I was not adding isnult to injury and began working with a STOTT® certified pilates instructor to focus on allignment and form.  I found great releif following the basic posture principles and noticed an improvement in my quality of life.

As I made the decision about my next certification, a STOTT® education appealed to me.  After about 2 years of training I received my pilates certification and began my business.  I continue to have a passion for fitness and find great joy in helping others meet their fitness goals.
