vanaka gunawardhana

Vanaka is Currently one of the Head Professionals at Laurel Springs Tennis in Suwanee Ga. It is one of the leading tennis programs in the south and Vanaka is the director of mens programing and the organizing director of the Pro-Am at Laurel Springs. 

 

As a junior, Vanaka was regularly in the top 5 of the Men’s open rankings in Sri Lanka. As a high school student Vanaka also won a spot in the Sri Lankan Davis Cup pool. As a Junior, Vanaka also competed in the Junior ITF and Indian National Circuits. After high school Vanaka furthered his education and tennis quest by attending college at Lewis-Clark State, Idaho, USA. Vanaka graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. As a college athlete Vanaka was part of two Lewis-Clark teams that qualified for the NAIA National Championships. As one of the leaders of his tennis team, Vanaka also was the 2001 ITA Region One Singles Finalist and Doubles Champion, 2001 Pacific Northwest Small College Doubles Champion and reached a highest collegiate national ranking of fifth in doubles.

As a professional Vanaka has worked under coaches such as Dick Gould, Frank Brennan and Lele Farood from whom he first got a taste for the tennis profession. Vanaka comes to us from the Collins Hill Athletic Club where he served as the Academy Director working with nationally and regionally ranked juniors. He has also  worked at the Hobson Performance Tennis Academy in Snellville, Ga and the Smoke Rise Golf and Country Club, Ga where he served as the Junior Head Professional.   

Vanaka’s older brother Genuan is a former Davis Cup Player for Sri Lanka, who currently resides in

West Chester, PA. Vanaka’s Parents Sama and Sunethra live in White Plains, NY. Vanaka enjoys most outdoor activity and also enjoys the occasional game of chess. Vanaka and his avid tennis playing wife, Jesan, live in Atlanta, GA.
