Kristen Williams

While enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro earning my degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism, I worked at Oak Ridge Health and Fitness in Oak Ridge, NC. This opened to door to what would soon become a great passion for health and wellness in my life. I worked with youth and adults creating workout routines for their needs. I played the role as key motivator to members as they came into the facility and were beginning their workouts. Keeping members happy, and motivated is a large factor in the continued progress of their programs.

Since 2006 when I graduated from UNC-Greensboro, I have moved on to various jobs in the event planning and recreation field. While working at Peppertree Resort, I have come out of my shell completely and found a great passion for group exercise. I improved the water aerobics classes that were offering and now have a following of water aerobisizers of all ages who have seen vast changes in their bodies! I have also created a yoga class for the very beginning yogi, where there has been a high success rate. I planned and implemented a Health and Wellness program for the employees at the resort with discounted rates at local fitness centers, a chart to track their progress, healthy recipes and easy shopping guide, and a great incentive plan to keep them going.

I have completed my Personal Training Certification in February 2010 at UNC-Chapel Hill through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, the same organization through which I received my Practical Yoga Instructor Certification. I should find out within the next few weeks that I passed and receive my certification. My water aerobics, group exercise instructor, and water safety certifications were obtained through WaterArt Fitness International Inc.

When I am not at work or teaching classes I work with the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina (BGCCC) which has given me great knowledge in working with non-profit businesses. In addition to being a very active player in the family and community supported Billfish Release Tournament produced by the BGCCC, I have allowed myself to be available year-round for any events they have. I spend time promoting these events, by distributing printed material and volunteering to be available prior to, the day of, and after the event conclusion to see that any last minute items are taken care of throughout the duration of the event.

I have also found myself a place at the yoga studio in Morehead City, NC. Yoga for You is the first of its kind in this area, offering basic level 1 yoga classes, Iyengar Level 2 classes, Hot Yoga, iRest, Pilates, Yoga for kids and families, classes for Cancer Survivors, and more. I work part time with them a few nights a week helping create new and exciting programs for the members.
My passion has quickly become that of health and wellness for people of all ages. I aspire to open a camp facility at some point for children that suffer from obesity to break the chain that may be holding them back from good self esteem, and self image.

In 2011 I completed my RYT 200 level certification and in March RYT 500. I have since traveld across the South Pacific teaching yoga classes. I had the privilage to work with Seane Corn, Hala Khouri, and Suzanne Sterling and the other Off the Mat, Into the World group to teach Yoga in Action a 7 week series to bring yoga into the communities through grassroots fundraising. I have also raised a few thousand dollars for earthquake relief in Haiti through yoga programs.

Water Aerobics is also a class I love to teach, and I implement Yoga moves into the class as much as possible. Some stretches are much easier for some body types when supported by the water.
