Kelly McCabe

My name is Kelly McCabe.  I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Health and Physical Activity and a Minor in Fitness.  I have worked in a fitness setting since 2006.  I have also recently completed my first marathon – the 2009 Philadelphia Marathon.

I have much experience working in the fitness field.  Working as a group exercise instructor for the past three years, I have had the opportunity to work with several populations, diverse in age and fitness level, in various different settings – health clubs, colleges, hospitals, corporations, and community fitness clubs.

In addition to teaching group exercise, I have also worked as a gym teacher for the City High Charter School in downtown Pittsburgh.  Throughout the semester I covered three different sports with the students – volleyball, basketball, and soccer.  This experience taught me how to interact with children and how to tailor exercises to their developmental and skill levels.

During my final spring semester of college, I interned at Carnegie Mellon University Mellon University with the Department of Athletics and Recreation.  I worked alongside the fitness director, Donna Morosky, to coordinate the campus-wide Fitness Challenge which promoted Healthy Campus 2010.  I arranged demo group exercise classes in multiple dorm buildings on campus in order to engage the students in exercise and make them aware of the various fitness classes that the university offered.  I also served as a personal trainer to students, faculty, and staff.

Fitness is my life!  It is always my goal to make fitness fun and exciting and something that people actually want to do.  Life is so busy, and exercise seems to be the first thing to get cut out of people’s lives.  If fitness can be fun, I think more people would adhere to it.  With the growing trend of obesity across the global, regular physical activity is crucial to combat this issue.  I hope that my love and passion for health and fitness will be passed on to the people I work with.
