Tammy is a certified personal trainer
and health and fitness professional with over 18 years experience. She has
worked extensively in the community with collegiate teams, preschools,
employers, doctors, chiropractors, yoga centers, gyms & more.
Tammy enjoys assisting and empowering
people who are seeking to create balance in their life through the decrease of
pain or just by becoming more active and living more fully.....physically,
emotionally, energetically and mindfully. Her specialty is working with individuals
who may have muscular issues, skeletal/joint issues, autoimmune disorders,
repetitive stress injuries, post-rehab, adaptive exercise & more. In
addition to regularly receiving referrals, Tammy also believes in the
importance of being in constant communication with a client's physcian,
physical therapist, chiropractor, massage therapist, etc., to ensure a
collaborative team approach is made toward a client's total health and
well-being.
After years of personal training, a
serious injury led Tammy to begin combining yoga with personal training. After
the birth of her first child, Tammy suffered a serious injury resulting in a
broken bone in her back, herniated disk, retrolisthesis and extreme
"unexplained," pain in the back of her pelvis. Being a very active
person, Tammy was slowly becoming more and more depressed by the pain and the
inability to return to her regular exercise. After exhausting many traditional
“services,” and being told it was in her head, Tammy tried one last thing,
yoga. Ever since, yoga has been an integral part of her life, helping her
through physical and emotional pain, while bringing her more in tune with her
self, which in turn helped to
facilitate a diagnosis for her unknown pain. After 6 persistant years, she was
finally diagnosed with a dislocated sacrum. Maintaining a regular yoga
practice, Tammy has since been able to to return to strength training,
cardiovascular activities and live a fairly active life again.
Tammy is the owner of Balance Company,
which provides private therapeutic yoga, personal training, education and
consulting. She is also co-founder of Synchronicity, a continuing education
company offering advanced studies and CEU's for health & wellness
professionals. In addition, Tammy teaches Anatomy & Physiology at the
University of Southern Maine and for nine years, was owner of the former Yoga
Center of Maine, Inc. In addition to her local work, Tammy teaches
internationally for a yoga teacher training school, and works as director of
Anatomy & Physiology and Curriculum Development. Tammy holds degrees
in Applied and Radiological Science, Health Science/Sports Medicine and is
currently working toward a dual doctorate degree in Natural Health &
Naturopathy.
