Nancy Mathé

I am a certified AFAA Group Exercise Instructor, Active Aging Coach and Functional Movement Specialist.  I am also a Keiser and Schwinn certified cycle instructor with additional certifications in IndoRow, ShockWave and Polar Heart Rate Training.  I have been a group exercise director for 10+ years and manage 20+ instructors.  I also co-own a stroller boot camp company called Urban Mom Bootcamps.

I developed a speciality class called Neuro Movement that utilizes neuroplasticity drills.

To this day I inspire others through fitness and community wide awareness programs.  I am continually researching fitness trends and complete at least 20 CECS annually.

Having traveled to over 35 countries and attending workshops and conferences in Europe, the Middle East and the USA I am excited to teach fitness classes all over the world.  I promote fitness every chance I can with published articles, TV and radio interviews, conference attendance and trainings.

From elementary school until the present health and fitness have been driving forces in my life.  In junior high and high school I played on several basketball teams, was a cheerleader, a champion at track and field, and played softball.  During college I was able to train as a cheerleader, compete in long distance running and cycling.  In my adult life while working with AmeriCorps and various other non-profit groups I continued to compete in running and also picked up golf and tennis.  I was also fortunate enough to create athletic summer camps for youth with the YWCA.

At the age of 29 I married a Texas boy and was swiftly moved to Houston, Texas.  I immediately joined a gym and got right back into my fitness routine with weights, cycling and running.  Two years after our move to Houston we learned my husband would be transferred to Saudi Arabia.  Having traveled to over 35 different countries I was excited about this move and the experiences that lay ahead.

As soon as my feet hit the soil of Saudi and I recovered from my jet lag I contacted the recreation department of Saudi Aramco.  I was instantly offered the opportunity of traveling to Bahrain for a two day Schwinn Indoor Cycling certification course.  Within a few weeks after my certification, several others and I began one of the first indoor cycling programs in the Middle East.  It was revolutionary and a huge success.  During my time in Saudi I trained in Dubai and Europe working toward becoming a master instructor.  All of this came to a halt when my kidneys failed during my pregnancy in spring 2006.  I delivered my baby 2 months early and went on hemodialysis dialyzing five hours a day six days a week.  My daughter lived for seven weeks in the NICU until her little body could no longer handle the machines and drugs that kept her alive.

We immediately made arrangements to move back to the States so I could have a kidney transplant.  Our move finally occurred in January 2007.  Two months after the birth of my daughter I went back to teaching indoor cycling classes.  I was still on hemodialysis and was extremely tired but I knew I had to fight through the fatigue and get my life back.

Once in Houston in January 2007 I found myself teaching eight to nine classes a week while on dialysis.  In December 2007 I got the call I had been waiting for; a kidney was available for me.  Five weeks after my transplant I was back on the bike teaching again and feeling so energized.
