Biography for my Dance Company:
Southern Grooveline Soul Line Dance Project AKA
“SGL” was founded by Karen Corbett and Elizabeth Young and formed on May
2, 2007. The vision of SGL is to
establish soul line dance as an art and source of healing for the mind,
body and soul. SGL’s theme and logo are
dancers on a train which symbolizes a fun journey to good health through dance
and travel. SGL became a registered
South Carolina Nonprofit Corporation June 20, 2007, and then a Charity in 2009,
under the direction of Karen Corbett and Kimberly Hudson. We have over 50
members, associates and many students promoting our mission, Dance While You
Can. We have CPR and Group Fitness Certified Instructors. The Groove train stays on track through weekly line dance classes
at various locations in Columbia SC.
Grooving on the dance floor is a healthy energizing form of exercise and
very popular with mature adults. SGL
enjoys spreading the joy of dance and entertaining others. We have performed and taught classes at a
variety of special engagements and locations to include parties, festivals,
rallies, schools, nursing-retirement homes, churches, charity events, social
clubs and numerous other celebrations.
The SGL “Groovers” share the love and learning of dance by
partnering with other groups to experience different types of music and line
dance styles. SGL’s motto
is "Dancing for Health, Having Fun, Going Places." Dancing and travel has taken SGL to numerous
Events and Workshops in Miami FL, the Delaware Valley, Atlanta GA, Tysons
Corner VA, Greensboro NC, Baltimore MD, Tacoma WA, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and
other parts of SC and on a Caribbean Cruise.
Line dancing combats health and weight issues; builds confidence,
