Kim McKnight

I have been teaching aerobics for almost 5 years now. I began when I was in my second year of college when they offered an Aerobics Instructor class for 3 credits. I had an opportunity to be taught by Erica Perkins, who is a Master Trainer in many aerobics genres. It was a semester long class that thoroughly went over every technical and physical element of group exercise. From learning every muscle and bone in the body to creating our own Hi/Lo class as a test, I had a chance to get a thorough education as an aerobics instructor. After passing the course, I was hired as an aerobics instructor at the University of Virginia. I have been AFAA certified ever since and also got certified in Reebok Cycle and Powerhouse Pilates while I taught at UVA. I loved teaching Spin to a packed class while listening to mixes that I created. It was exciting to have a full capacity (40 people) in every Pilates class that I taught. After I was teaching 5 classes a week, I moved back to where my family lives to teach Kindergarten and get married. I now teach aerobics at two different Gold's Gyms in Richmond, VA. I teach 3 classes a week while I am full-time Kindergarten teacher. I was teaching just one cycle class and one Pilates class, but the Fitness Director contacted me to tell me that she has had so many requests for another Pilates class that she added a second class because of many requests. In order to add a muscle conditioning class, I got certified in Les Mills Body Pump. It is a great way to motivate myself and others. I love teaching aerobics in order to motivate any person who comes to class. Some of the top feelings as an instructor are having the same people attend my classes every week for the past 2 years, having a first-time aerobics participant leave the class with a smile on their face, and helping motivate every population to a healthier lifestyle!
