My fascination with yoga began nearly three decades ago when I took my first yoga class in Amritsar, India during my art education student teacher assignment abroad. I appreciated that class, consisting of seated breathwork, with wonder and curiosity. I continued to dabble in all sorts of classes wherever I've landed in life, from Saginaw, MI, to Asheville, NC and finally, here, on my mat, in Iowa City, Iowa. My dabbling turned into more of a deep dive the last several years, becoming an essential touchstone of personal well-being.

My appreciation is multi-faceted: from the Yoga Sutras and hot yoga lineage via India to the many teachers and styles I learn from today. I honor the historic lineage of yoga with authentic study and appreciation in my personal (and now teaching) practice. Likewise, I acknowledge the great gift of the teachers who are making these healthful, mindful practices accessible to us, here in the United States, who could use a few tools in our sanity boxes.

I received my first 200RYT at Hot Yoga Asheville in November of 2023 and I am taking a course in late March 2024 on Teaching Yoga to Beginners at Muddy Feet Yoga in Iowa City, Iowa.  My goal as a teacher is to bring yoga to anyone who wants it, however they want it. I LOVE a challenging flow and breaking down peak postures AND restorative (what I lovingly refer to as layaround yoga). I also enjoy creating cross-training sequences to complement fitness or other personal health goals: running, lifting or cycling.   respect and study a variety of styles and lineages and know that you are the expert on your own body, together we can approach practice with confidence and curiosity.

My mother, sister and I have made it a tradition to practice yoga together at local studios on our annual beach vacation. I am inspired by different studios and perspectives. I love adding the element of wellness while on vacation, which is why I was especially excited to learn about Fitness Pro Travel. Practicing yoga while on holiday is not only fun and refreshing during the trip, but also keeps a sense of mental and physical well-being as a priority, allowing us to recharge and restore, rather than come back home exhausted.
